EFCC RELEASES ACTIVISTS RANDY PETER, MAMA PEE AFTER HOURS OF QUESTIONING


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released activists Randy Peter and Precious Oruche, popularly known as Mama Pee, after both honoured an invitation by the anti-graft agency at its headquarters in Abuja.

The two activists were released shortly after midnight on Thursday following several hours of questioning. According to reports, they were directed to return to the commission's office later on Thursday for further engagement.

Their colleague, Justice Cracks, who accompanied them to the EFCC headquarters, confirmed the development in a post on X. He disclosed that the activists arrived at the commission's office at about 1:00 p.m. on July 15 and remained there for approximately 11 hours before being allowed to leave.

Justice Cracks stated that Randy Peter and Mama Pee were released around 12:00 a.m. and asked to report back to the EFCC on July 16, adding that they were both in good condition.

Earlier, concerns had spread across social media after reports emerged that the activists had not left the EFCC office several hours after honouring the invitation.

Among those who raised the alarm was Esther Umoh, the 2023 presidential campaign photographer for Labour Party leader Peter Obi. In a post on X, she said the activists had voluntarily responded to the EFCC's invitation but had yet to be released, prompting speculation that they had been detained.

The concerns were later addressed when Justice Cracks confirmed their release and clarified that they had only been instructed to return for further discussions.

As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC has not publicly disclosed the reason for inviting Randy Peter and Mama Pee.
