ONDO GOVT VOWS TO PROSECUTE FATHER ACCUSED OF BURNING DAUGHTER WITH HOT IRON


The Ondo State Government has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy against child abuse, declaring that it will ensure the prosecution of a man accused of assaulting his minor daughter with a hot pressing iron in Owo Local Government Area.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Seun Osamaye, made the declaration on Thursday while addressing the reported incident involving a father from Unaun New Site, Upenmen, Owo, who allegedly inflicted burns on his daughter's private part with a hot pressing iron as punishment for bedwetting.

Describing the alleged act as "heinous" and "dastardly," Dr. Osamaye said the administration of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa remains committed to protecting children from abuse, violence, and all forms of social degradation.

She stated that the state government would ensure that the suspect is prosecuted in accordance with the law while the victim receives the necessary care and protection.

The commissioner commended the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Felix Ohagwu, for his swift response to the incident, noting that the Divisional Police Officer of Owo 'A' Division, Mr. Iwatan Oluwatobi, promptly arrested the suspect for investigation.

Dr. Osamaye also appreciated the efforts of His Royal Highness, the Olunaun of Unaun-Owo, Chief Olanrewaju Abegunde; the Secretary of the Owo Youth Assembly, Mr. Ajibola Omotayo; and the Director-General of the Opomulero Movement, Hon. Olasupo Olakunori, for promptly bringing the matter to the attention of the state government.

She further acknowledged the contributions of the Leader of the House in Owo Local Government, Rt. Hon. Doyin Adeyefa; Councillor Hon. Nike Agbede; media practitioner Mr. Maxwell Uwashokan; welfare officers of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development; former Special Assistant to the Governor, Mrs. Akinrogbe Omolara; and other social welfare officials who ensured the child received immediate medical attention at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo.

According to the commissioner, the Ondo State Government facilitated the victim's treatment while further legal and welfare procedures continue.

Dr. Osamaye urged members of the public to promptly report all cases of child abuse to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development or relevant authorities to enable swift intervention and protection of victims.
