FORMER ADULT FILM ACTRESS TAKES OATH AS COLOMBIAN SENATOR AFTER ELECTION VICTORY


A former adult film actress, Deyci Alejandra Omaña Ortiz, widely known by her stage name Amaranta Hank, has officially been sworn in as a senator in Colombia following her victory in the country's March 2026 parliamentary election.

Ortiz will represent Colombia's Norte de Santander region as a member of the left-wing Historic Pact coalition during the 2026–2030 legislative term. According to Colombian media reports, she secured her seat after placing 23rd on the coalition's closed Senate list.

Official figures from Colombia's National Registry show that the Historic Pact emerged as the country's largest political force in the Senate election, winning 22.72 percent of the total vote with more than 4.4 million ballots, resulting in 25 Senate seats.

Before entering politics, Ortiz worked as a journalist before transitioning into the adult entertainment industry. She has maintained that her previous career should not define or limit her ability to serve in public office.

Speaking on the issue, she has argued that individuals who have worked in the adult entertainment sector deserve legal recognition and equal opportunities rather than social stigma.

Responding to criticism over her election in a TikTok video, Ortiz questioned why a woman with a background in the adult film industry should be prevented from seeking elective office.

Beyond advocating for the rights and protections of adult entertainment workers, the newly sworn-in senator has also pledged to focus on mental health, sexual abuse prevention, and broader social welfare initiatives during her time in office.

Her rise to the Senate follows an earlier controversial appointment as a deputy minister in Colombia's Ministry of Equality alongside former adult performer Juan Carlos Florián, a move that generated widespread public debate within President Gustavo Petro's administration.

Ortiz's inauguration has attracted significant attention both within Colombia and internationally, highlighting ongoing discussions about political inclusion, representation, and public perceptions of candidates from unconventional professional backgrounds.
