FORMER ONDO GOVERNOR'S AIDE DEFENDS AIYEDATIWA, CONDEMNS CRITICISM OF GOVERNOR'S CHAPEL WORSHIPPERS


Former Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Ondo State on Special Interest, Apostle Temitope Dadeowo Olowofoyekun, has defended Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa and worshippers at the Governor's Chapel in Alagbaka, following remarks attributed to a social commentator identified as JAF.

In a statement, Olowofoyekun described the criticism of the Governor and members of the congregation as unfair, urging commentators to exercise responsibility, respect, and accuracy when expressing opinions on issues relating to religion and public leadership.

He argued that portraying Christians who worship at the Governor's Chapel as hypocrites amounted to a broad generalisation that was not supported by evidence. According to him, worshippers should not be ridiculed because they attend services at a chapel located within the Governor's Office.

Referencing passages from the Bible, including Jude 1:8-10, 2 Timothy 3:1-5, Matthew 7:3-5, and Galatians 6:7, Olowofoyekun called on Christians and public commentators alike to exercise humility, self-examination, and restraint in public discussions involving matters of faith.

He further stated that the Governor's Chapel serves as a place of worship where the Governor, members of his family, government officials, workers, and other Christians gather to pray for the peace and progress of Ondo State. He added that worship services continue even when the Governor is not present, maintaining that the focus of the congregation is on God rather than any political office holder.

Olowofoyekun acknowledged that constructive criticism is a vital component of democracy but stressed that such criticism should be based on verifiable facts rather than speculation or personal attacks. He also maintained that freedom of expression should not be used to spread misinformation or ridicule the sincerely held religious beliefs of others.

According to him, those close to JAF should encourage more responsible public commentary that promotes civility and factual engagement, noting that disagreement with government policies should not extend to attacks on the faith of worshippers.

He concluded by urging residents to uphold truth, religious freedom, mutual respect, and the dignity of public institutions while promoting constructive dialogue that fosters unity across Ondo State.
