ILE-OLUJI/OKEIGBO TO BENEFIT AS AIYEDATIWA ADVANCES MAJOR PUBLIC WATER SUPPLY PROJECT IN ONDO


Residents of Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government Area are among the beneficiaries of the Ondo State Government's ongoing public water supply revitalisation project aimed at expanding access to potable water across the state.

The project, being implemented under the African Development Bank (AfDB)- and French Development Agency (AFD)-supported Urban Water Supply Project, is designed to rehabilitate and strengthen water infrastructure while improving access to clean and safe water in selected local government areas.

According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Communication and Strategy, Allen Sowore, Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa's administration is making steady progress in restoring public water supply through the rehabilitation of the Owena Water Treatment Plant and the expansion of the state's water distribution network.

The statement noted that construction works are currently ongoing in Akure and adjoining communities, including Ado Road, Igoba, Isinigbo and Oda, where contractors are laying new transmission pipelines and upgrading critical water infrastructure.

It explained that the project includes the construction of new transmission mains from the Owena Water Treatment Plant to Akure, the development of modern water reservoirs with a combined capacity of 7,500 cubic metres, and the expansion of the water distribution network.

Beyond the state capital, the intervention will extend to seven local government areas, namely Akure South, Akure North, Idanre, Ifedore, Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo, Ondo East and Ondo West.

For residents of Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo, the inclusion of the council area in the project is expected to improve access to potable water, strengthen public health, support economic activities and enhance the quality of life through better water and sanitation services.

The Ondo State Government stated that the Commissioner for Water Resources, Public Sanitation and Hygiene, Hon. Ayodele Akande, has continued to monitor project sites to ensure quality execution and timely completion.

The government also acknowledged the support of its development partners, including the French Development Agency (AFD), the African Development Bank (AfDB), the African Growing Together Fund (AGTF), and the Federal Government of Nigeria for their contributions to the implementation of the project.

The inclusion of Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo in the water supply initiative underscores the state's broader commitment to expanding access to clean and reliable water for residents across Ondo State.
