AIYEDATIWA REWARDS 67 OUTSTANDING STUDENTS, TEACHERS WITH ₦1 MILLION EACH, GRANTS 7 NYSC HONOUREES AUTOMATIC EMPLOYMENT


Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on Tuesday rewarded 67 outstanding students, teachers and national award recipients with ₦1 million each, while also granting automatic employment into the Ondo State Public Service to seven National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) awardees in recognition of their exceptional achievements.

The governor announced the employment opportunity during the presentation of awards to outstanding education achievers at the Cocoa Conference Centre, Governor's Office, Akure.

He said the gesture reflects his administration's commitment to promoting excellence, rewarding hard work and retaining exceptional talents in Ondo State, stressing that sustained investment in human capital development remains the foundation of the state's long-term growth.

Governor Aiyedatiwa described the event as a celebration of excellence and a reminder that the quality of a society's human capital remains its greatest asset.

According to him, the award recipients have brought honour to Ondo State through their academic achievements, innovation, discipline and commitment to excellence.

"You have not only excelled in your various endeavours; you have become worthy ambassadors of the Sunshine State and shining examples for generations yet unborn," the governor said.

He noted that excellence is attained through vision, sacrifice, discipline, perseverance and the courage to pursue greatness despite challenges.

The governor also paid tribute to teachers, describing them as the architects of human capital and the silent heroes behind every success story.

He said the recognition aligns with the education component of his administration's OUR EASE policy agenda, highlighting ongoing investments in classroom rehabilitation, modern learning facilities, teacher recruitment and training, digital education, technical and vocational education, improved workers' welfare and safer learning environments.

According to him, the administration aims to produce youths who are intellectually sound, morally upright, technologically competent, entrepreneurial and globally competitive.

The award categories included seven recipients of the NYSC National Award, 54 students who scored above 300 in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), students who represented Ondo State and Nigeria in national and international academic competitions, including the National Spelling Bee Global Competition in the United States, the World Olympiad Competition in Paris, France, and the World Chemistry Olympiad held in Uzbekistan.

Two teachers were also honoured under the National Teachers Award category, representing the public and private school sectors.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, said the recognition was designed to encourage excellence and inspire students and teachers across the state.

He stated that education remains a top priority of the Aiyedatiwa administration and commended the governor for establishing a platform to celebrate academic excellence.

The event was attended by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami, Chief of Staff Prince Segun Omojuwa, members of the State Executive Council, lawmakers, education stakeholders, the Ondo State NYSC Coordinator and other dignitaries.
