AIYEDATIWA TO DISTRIBUTE 1,800 BAGS OF RICE, EMPOWER VULNERABLE RESIDENTS IN ONDO


The Ondo State Government has announced plans to distribute 1,800 bags of rice and other relief materials to widows, persons with disabilities (PWDs), senior citizens and other vulnerable groups across the state as part of ongoing social intervention efforts.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr Seun Osamaye, disclosed the initiative during a media briefing in Akure on Monday. She explained that the programme is being implemented under the Renewed Hope Initiative Social Investment Programme of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, with the approval of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.

According to the commissioner, the food outreach and empowerment programme is designed to cushion the effects of current economic challenges facing vulnerable households across Ondo State.

She said beneficiaries would receive food items and essential support aimed at easing hardship, restoring dignity and improving household welfare.

Dr Osamaye noted that the intervention reflects Governor Aiyedatiwa's commitment to inclusive governance and ensuring that no resident is left behind in the state's development agenda.

She added that beyond providing immediate relief, the programme is expected to promote social inclusion, improve the quality of life of beneficiaries, strengthen public confidence in government social intervention programmes, and encourage self-reliance among widows, persons with disabilities, senior citizens and other vulnerable citizens.

The commissioner also announced a second initiative titled "Sensitisation and Empowerment of Women on Gender Equality and Adequate Representation in Governance," also known as the Project 774 Explode Initiative.

She explained that the programme aims to educate, inspire and empower women to actively participate in governance and leadership by providing training in gender equality, leadership development, political participation, advocacy, mentorship, networking and capacity building.

According to Dr Osamaye, both programmes represent strategic investments in human capital development, social inclusion and sustainable community development, reaffirming the Ondo State Government's commitment to empowering women and supporting vulnerable members of society.
