ALIA PLEDGES 620,000 BENUE VOTES FOR TINUBU IN 2027


Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure at least 620,000 votes in Benue State during the 2027 presidential election, doubling the votes the President received in the 2023 poll.

Governor Alia made the declaration on Monday while addressing journalists after a meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Former Benue State Governor, Senator Gabriel Suswam, was also present at the meeting.

The governor said the recent political developments in Benue, particularly the alignment of Senator Suswam with the All Progressives Congress (APC), have further strengthened the party's prospects ahead of the next general election.

According to Alia, the APC remains well-positioned to improve on its previous electoral performance in the state.

"I am very confident that as I won the election, even the first time, we are going to double the numbers for him. APC will continue to remain one strong force, and we are going to make it good for him and for the entire Benue State as well," he said.

President Tinubu secured 310,468 votes in Benue during the 2023 presidential election, defeating Labour Party candidate Peter Obi, who polled 308,372 votes, with a margin of 2,096 votes.

Governor Alia explained that his visit to the President also focused on providing updates on the security situation in Benue, the welfare of internally displaced persons (IDPs), the ongoing farming season, and political developments in the state following the APC primaries.

He noted that while Benue had experienced security challenges in recent months, the situation has improved, although concerns remain in some communities.

The governor further disclosed that he introduced Senator Gabriel Suswam to President Tinubu following the former governor's decision to align with the APC, describing the move as a significant political development for the state.

Speaking on concerns arising from the APC primaries, Alia acknowledged that some party members were dissatisfied with the outcome but expressed optimism that the differences would be resolved through dialogue.

He also appreciated President Tinubu for his support during Benue State's recent 50th anniversary celebration, noting that several development projects, including industrial and road infrastructure, were commissioned during the commemorative events by representatives of the President and the First Lady.

Governor Alia said the visit provided an opportunity to brief the President on developments in the state and to express gratitude for the Federal Government's continued support.
