FG CLARIFIES NO FINAL DECISION HAS BEEN TAKEN ON REPLACING NYSC UNIFORM


The Federal Government has clarified that no final decision has been reached regarding reports suggesting that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) uniform would be replaced with Adire fabric, following widespread reactions generated by comments made during an ongoing reform discussion.

The clarification was made by the Minister for Youth Development after public attention shifted to remarks he made earlier during an appearance on Channels Television concerning ongoing reforms within the NYSC scheme.

According to the minister, his mention of Adire and Ankara during the interview was not an official announcement of a policy change but merely part of discussions around several proposals being considered as the government reviews different aspects of the NYSC programme.

He explained that the fabrics were cited only as examples of suggestions presented during consultations and stressed that no particular design or material has been approved to replace the current NYSC uniform.

The minister stated that authorities are currently considering various options capable of meeting important standards such as professional appearance, durability, functionality, affordability, national identity, and the promotion of national pride.

He further emphasized that no final decision would be taken without extensive consultations with relevant stakeholders, noting that every step of the ongoing NYSC reform process is being guided by what best serves both the scheme and the country.

While addressing the growing public conversation surrounding the proposed uniform change, the minister urged Nigerians to focus on the broader objectives of the reform agenda rather than allowing debates about uniform redesign to overshadow more significant changes being planned for the scheme.

According to him, the wider reform efforts are aimed at making the NYSC programme more relevant to current realities by improving youth employability, promoting entrepreneurship, strengthening national unity, enhancing service delivery, and ensuring a smoother transition from education into productive careers.

He noted that the reforms are expected to position the NYSC as a stronger platform for national development while creating greater opportunities for millions of young Nigerians.

The minister also expressed appreciation to Nigerians for the constructive feedback generated so far and assured the public that all proposals under consideration would continue to be carefully reviewed in the nation’s best interest.

The clarification was shared by the minister through a statement posted on his official Facebook page amid increasing public discussions on the future direction of the NYSC reform programme.
