KOGI SECURITY FORCES RESCUE ABDUCTED PRINCIPAL, NECO OFFICIAL, TWO STUDENTS AFTER FOREST OPERATION


The Kogi State Government has announced the successful rescue of a school principal, a National Examinations Council (NECO) official, and two students who were abducted on Tuesday from an unauthorized examination centre in Olowa, Dekina Local Government Area.

The rescue followed a coordinated security operation ordered by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and carried out by a joint team of security agencies.

The state's Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Thursday, describing the operation as the result of a swift multi-agency response launched immediately after the abduction.

According to the statement, Governor Ododo directed the State Security Adviser, Commander Jerry Omodara (Rtd), to coordinate the rescue mission involving personnel of the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, local vigilante groups, and other security operatives.

Fanwo said security operatives stormed the forest where the victims were believed to have been held, mounting sustained pressure on the kidnappers.

He explained that the heavy deployment of armed security personnel forced the abductors to abandon the victims and flee the area, leading to the safe recovery of all four captives.

The commissioner confirmed that the rescued principal, NECO official, and two students were unharmed and are currently undergoing debriefing and routine medical examinations by security agencies.

He added that security personnel have remained in the forest to continue operations aimed at tracking down and apprehending the fleeing suspects.

Fanwo commended the professionalism and collaboration displayed by the Nigerian Army, DSS, Police, local vigilante groups, and other security agencies involved in the operation.

He also expressed the Kogi State Government's appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting the state's security efforts, noting that the President directed relevant security agencies to provide every necessary assistance to facilitate the rescue mission.

The commissioner reiterated Governor Ododo's commitment to strengthening security across Kogi State through sustained investment in intelligence gathering, improved security logistics, and continued inter-agency cooperation to protect lives and property.
