NIGERIAN TROOPS RESCUE KIDNAP VICTIMS, NEUTRALISE TWO SUSPECTED TERRORISTS IN EDO OPERATION


The Nigerian Army, in a joint operation with the Nigeria Police Force and local vigilante groups, has rescued three kidnapped victims, neutralised two suspected terrorists, and recovered arms and other items during a security operation in Edo State.

According to the Army, the operation followed a reported kidnap incident at Ambrose Alli University on July 13, 2026. Acting on credible intelligence, troops, alongside police personnel and local vigilantes, launched a coordinated pursuit of the suspected kidnappers to their hideout in Esan Local Government Area of the state.

The joint security team reportedly engaged the suspects in a gun battle upon reaching the hideout. During the exchange, two suspected terrorists were neutralised, while other members of the group fled the scene under sustained pressure from the security forces.

The Army said the fleeing suspects abandoned their captives during the operation, leading to the successful rescue of three kidnapped victims, who were recovered unharmed.

Security operatives also recovered three AK-47 rifles, 39 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, three mobile phones, and two power banks. The recovered items are currently in the custody of security authorities, while efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.

The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders to combat criminal activities and safeguard lives and property across the country. It also urged members of the public to support ongoing security operations by providing credible information on criminal hideouts and collaborators.
