ONDO POLICE ARREST FOUR OVER ALLEGED ASSAULT, CYBERBULLYING AND VIRAL HUMILIATION VIDEO


The Ondo State Police Command has arrested four persons in connection with the alleged assault, cyberbullying and unlawful public humiliation of a resident whose video was reportedly recorded and circulated on social media.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the Command said it has commenced an investigation into allegations bordering on conspiracy, assault occasioning harm and cyberbullying following the reported incident.

The police disclosed that on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at about 2:00 p.m., one Boluwaji Temidayo reported at the Okuta Elerinla Police Station that he was allegedly assaulted by a group of individuals who also recorded the incident without his consent before uploading the footage on various social media platforms. The complainant stated that the incident allegedly occurred on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.




Following the report, the Command said operatives launched a technology-driven forensic investigation, deploying digital intelligence and other investigative tools to identify those involved in the alleged assault and the circulation of the video.

The investigation reportedly led to the arrest of four suspects identified as Gbemisola Ariyo (female), Babatunde Eniola (female), Adams Tobiloba (male), and Fasusi Bunmi (female).

Police said the suspects are currently in custody and have made statements to investigators, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other individuals allegedly connected to the incident. The Command added that anyone found culpable at the conclusion of the investigation would be charged in court in accordance with the law.

The Ondo State Police Command condemned what it described as the growing trend of jungle justice, mob action and the public humiliation of individuals suspected of committing offences. It also expressed concern over the increasing practice of recording such incidents and sharing them on social media to ridicule, intimidate or incite public hostility against others.




The Command reminded residents that every person accused or suspected of an offence is entitled to constitutional rights and that allegations alone do not amount to guilt. It stressed that no individual or group has the legal authority to assault, publicly humiliate or subject anyone to extrajudicial punishment.

Residents were advised to report suspected offenders to the nearest police station instead of taking the law into their own hands. The police also cautioned against recording, publishing or circulating defamatory, misleading or malicious content capable of violating the rights of others or interfering with ongoing investigations, warning that such actions could attract prosecution under applicable laws, including cybercrime legislation.

Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, reaffirmed the Command's commitment to protecting the fundamental rights of all residents, ensuring impartial law enforcement and prosecuting anyone found to have violated the rights and dignity of others through due process.

The Command urged members of the public to remain law-abiding and allow law enforcement agencies to carry out their constitutional responsibilities, emphasizing that justice should be pursued through lawful procedures rather than violence, intimidation or trial by social media.
