ONDO POLICE FOIL SUSPECTED MOTORCYCLE ROBBERY, RECOVER STOLEN BIKE IN SEPARATE OPERATIONS

The Ondo State Police Command has recorded two major operational successes following the arrest of a suspected motorcycle robber, the recovery of a stolen motorcycle, and the seizure of forged documents and other exhibits in separate intelligence-led operations across the state.

The Command said the operations reflect its continued commitment to protecting lives and property under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, while aligning with the intelligence-driven policing strategy of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the first incident occurred at about 8:35 p.m. on July 9, 2026, along Adepetu Street, off Flagship in Ondo Town.

Police operatives arrested John Anthony, 32, after he and an accomplice allegedly attempted to rob a commercial motorcyclist of his motorcycle.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim, Felix Olusola, had picked up the two suspects at Ife Garage. During the journey, the rider became suspicious after the passengers reportedly failed to provide a clear destination and instead directed him aimlessly around the town.

Sensing danger, the motorcyclist raised an alarm and struggled with one of the suspects. While the second suspect escaped with a bag, police officers, assisted by members of the public, responded promptly and arrested John Anthony. The motorcycle was recovered intact.

A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of a large screwdriver, which police suspect was intended to be used during the robbery. Investigations are ongoing, while efforts have been intensified to apprehend the fleeing accomplice.

In a separate operation, detectives launched an investigation after Omoniyi Opeyemi reported that a man identified as Daniel Motunrayo visited his office to verify the authenticity of a receipt bearing his company's name for an unregistered black TVS ladies' motorcycle allegedly purchased from Omotosho Segun Joshua.

Police said verification revealed that the receipt was forged and that the motorcycle had earlier been reported stolen.

A subsequent search of the suspect's residence reportedly led to the recovery of a laptop containing forged receipts, an unregistered black TVS ladies' motorcycle suspected to have been stolen, two army camouflage trousers, a Samsung television set, and a Domoclip air fryer.

The recovered items have been taken into police custody as investigators work to determine the full scope of the suspect's activities, identify possible accomplices, and recover additional stolen property.

Commissioner of Police Felix Ohagwu commended the vigilance and courage displayed by the commercial motorcyclist as well as members of the public who assisted officers during the arrest, noting that the operation highlights the importance of strong police-community collaboration in combating crime.

He also expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for his continued support and leadership, which he said has strengthened intelligence gathering and operational effectiveness across the Nigeria Police Force.

The Commissioner reassured residents that the Command remains committed to eliminating criminal activities in Ondo State and urged members of the public to remain vigilant, promptly report suspicious activities, and continue to provide credible information to security agencies.

Police said investigations into both cases are ongoing, with efforts continuing to arrest fleeing suspects and uncover any wider criminal networks connected to the incidents.
