ONDO STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY HOLDS LEADERSHIP MEETING AS SPEAKER FACES EXIT


The leadership crisis rocking the Ondo State House of Assembly took a fresh turn on Thursday as members of the Assembly reportedly advised the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, to resign following an internal leadership meeting convened in Akure.

According to a press statement issued by the Leader of the House, Hon. Olatunji Oshati, the meeting was called in response to recent allegations involving the Speaker and the ensuing public exchanges surrounding the matter.

Oshati stated that the meeting provided an opportunity for the Speaker and available members of the Assembly to discuss the issues with the aim of finding an amicable resolution.

During the deliberations, lawmakers informed the Speaker that more than 21 members had endorsed a position supporting a change in the leadership of the House. According to the statement, the decision was based on concerns relating to the conduct and administration of the Assembly's affairs.

The lawmakers subsequently advised the Speaker to resign in the interest of the institution, noting that such a step would enable the House to resume its constitutional duties without further disruption.

The statement also addressed reports of personal attacks and alleged threats to the lives of some members. It urged all lawmakers to channel any such concerns through the appropriate legal and institutional processes rather than public confrontations.

Members were further advised to refrain from making statements on social media that could undermine the integrity, dignity, and public image of the Ondo State House of Assembly.

Hon. Oshati maintained that the House had formally communicated its position to the Speaker and urged him to act in a manner that would preserve the sanctity, integrity, and reputation of the legislative institution.

The development comes amid ongoing political tensions within the Ondo State House of Assembly, with attention now focused on the Speaker's next course of action.
