OYO TAKES DELIVERY OF TWO SECURITY AIRCRAFT TO BOOST AERIAL SURVEILLANCE OPERATIONS


The Oyo State Government has received two security surveillance aircraft as part of efforts to strengthen intelligence gathering, aerial monitoring and rapid response to security threats across the state.

The aircraft arrived at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, on Tuesday, marking the completion of a process initiated by the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde to improve the state’s security infrastructure.

According to the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, the arrival of the aircraft represents another milestone in the government’s commitment to enhancing security operations through modern technology.

He explained that the aircraft would support security agencies, including the Oyo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, and other relevant formations in monitoring criminal activities and responding more effectively to security challenges.

Governor Makinde had earlier announced that the aircraft had arrived in Nigeria and were undergoing reassembly at the Nigerian Air Force hangar in Lagos before their deployment to Oyo State.

The state government had also assured residents that the surveillance aircraft would arrive before the end of July, a commitment now fulfilled with their delivery to Ibadan.

The new security assets are expected to provide aerial support in areas such as intelligence collection, crime prevention, surveillance of remote locations and coordination of security operations within Oyo State and neighbouring areas.

The acquisition of the aircraft was first announced by the state government in July 2025 as part of measures aimed at improving the capacity of security agencies to tackle kidnapping, banditry and other emerging security concerns.

The development comes as state governments across Nigeria continue to adopt technology-driven approaches to complement the efforts of conventional security agencies in maintaining public safety.
