TRADERS PROTEST IN ADO-EKITI, DEMAND REDUCTION OF TAXES AND BUSINESS LEVIES


Traders and residents in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, staged a protest at the popular Oja Oba Market on Thursday, calling on the state government to reduce taxes and levies imposed on businesses.

The protesters marched through the market with chants and placards, expressing concerns that the current tax burden has become unsustainable and is threatening the survival of many businesses.

According to the demonstrators, the increasing taxes, levies, and daily dues have significantly reduced their profits, making it difficult to restock goods, sustain their businesses, and meet their daily financial obligations.

Some traders said the situation has become so challenging that many business owners are considering shutting down their shops if the current tax regime continues.

The protesters appealed to the Ekiti State Government to review the existing tax policies and engage market leaders, traders' associations, and other stakeholders in constructive dialogue to develop a more sustainable approach that supports businesses while maintaining government revenue.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no official response from the Ekiti State Government regarding the protesters' demands.
