LG CHAIRMAN ADEBARE MOVES TO ADDRESS FLOODING, ASSURES RESIDENTS OF LASTING SOLUTIONS


The Executive Chairman of Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government, Hon. Adebare Adeboye, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to addressing the flooding challenges affecting parts of the local government, assuring residents that comprehensive and long-term solutions are already being implemented.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Special Assistant on Media to the Executive Chairman, Otunba Oluwapelumi Akinsiku, the council acknowledged the concerns, criticisms and reactions expressed by residents following the recent flooding incidents.

The statement noted that the local government appreciates the feedback from members of the public, describing constructive criticism as an important element of democratic governance that promotes accountability, transparency and responsive leadership.

According to the statement, shortly after the flooding occurred, Hon. Adebare Adeboye, accompanied by the Special Assistant on Technical and Ecological Control and other government officials, conducted an extensive inspection of the affected communities to assess the level of damage and determine appropriate long-term interventions.

It explained that the assessments paved the way for the commencement of plans to implement sustainable flood control measures, including the construction of bridges in strategic locations and the clearing of waterways using specialised equipment known as a Swamp Buggy.

The council clarified that the initial deployment of the heavy-duty excavator forms part of the technical assessment required to determine the depth, water channels and natural drainage paths before full-scale construction begins. It added that the movement and operation of such equipment require careful planning, logistics and technical preparations.

The statement further stressed that the Adeboye administration has consistently focused on delivering durable infrastructure projects capable of serving the people for many years, noting that the ongoing flood control initiative is being executed with the same commitment to quality and sustainability.

While acknowledging that flooding has become a major environmental challenge in many parts of Nigeria due to prevailing weather conditions, the local government maintained that protecting lives and property remains one of its highest priorities.

Residents were therefore urged to remain patient, cooperate with government officials and continue to observe safety precautions as work progresses across the affected communities.

The Executive Chairman reassured residents that his administration remains committed to providing lasting solutions that will significantly reduce the recurrence of flooding and strengthen the resilience of communities across Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government.
