“MTN MUST LEAVE NIGERIA” — UNIVERSITY STUDENTS' PRESIDENT CONDEMNS XENOPHOBIC ATTACKS, THREATENS BOYCOTT OF SOUTH AFRICAN FIRM


The President of a university students' union has called on MTN Nigeria to leave the country, citing renewed concerns over reported xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.

The student leader, in a statement circulating on social media, alleged that the continued operation of the South African-owned telecommunications company in Nigeria was unacceptable while Nigerians were reportedly being targeted in South Africa.

He further claimed that Nigerians could rely on other telecommunications providers, including Glo and Airtel, and suggested that MTN should face a boycott if concerns over the reported attacks are not addressed.

The comments come amid renewed public discussions on the safety of Nigerians living and working in South Africa, where previous incidents of xenophobic violence have strained diplomatic and economic relations between both countries.
