AI EDUCATION WILL HELP CURB YOUTH CRIME, KWARA GOVERNOR DECLARES


Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has said that empowering young people with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other digital skills is a strategic way to reduce youth involvement in crime while creating greater employment opportunities.

The governor made the assertion on Sunday during the inauguration of the Shaykh Adam Abdullahi Al-Ilory Centre for Computing and Digital Technology at Misbahudeen Islamic School, Ganmo, in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Represented by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, Governor AbdulRazaq described the over ₦13 million digital technology centre as a major investment in human capital development and the future of young Nigerians.

He said learners in traditional Arabic schools deserve access to modern technology and digital education, stressing that equipping them with skills in Artificial Intelligence, robotics, web design, software development and data analysis would enhance their employability and reduce the tendency toward criminal activities.

According to the governor, preparing young people with relevant digital skills will position them to compete in today's technology-driven economy while contributing meaningfully to national development.

The computing and digital technology hub, funded by Almaruf Global Works Nigeria Ltd., is the first flagship project under the Almaruf Organisation for Islamic and Human Development's Arabic Schools Development Programme. The facility will provide free training in AI, software development, data analysis and other digital skills for students of traditional Arabic schools across Kwara State.

Founder of the organisation, Maruf Owoyemi, said the initiative was established to bridge the technological gap affecting madrasa students by providing them with access to world-class digital education. He added that the organisation intends to replicate similar digital technology laboratories across Arabic schools in the state, noting that government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility of meeting every educational need.

Also speaking at the event, the Grand Kadi of the Kwara State Sharia Court of Appeal, Hon. Justice Abdullateef Kamaldeen, and Professor of Arabic Literature at Kwara State University, Prof. Hamza Ishola Abdurraheem, urged beneficiaries to take full advantage of the opportunity by combining Arabic scholarship with digital technology skills to become globally competitive innovators capable of contributing to societal growth.

The initiative reflects the growing emphasis on digital literacy and technological innovation as critical tools for youth empowerment, job creation and sustainable national development.
