BANDITS ABDUCT ZAMFARA LG CHAIRMAN, KILL SECURITY PERSONNEL AS TROOPS LAUNCH RESCUE OPERATION


Armed bandits have abducted the Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, Nura Abdullahi, following a deadly attack on his residence in the early hours of Saturday.

According to reports, the attackers stormed the chairman's residence in large numbers, engaging his security personnel in a fierce gun battle before abducting him. The assault resulted in the deaths of security operatives attached to the chairman, while several members of his family were also taken away during the attack.

A resident of Bungudu, Abdullahi Na Allah Said, said the gunmen invaded the town and headed directly to the chairman's residence, where they kidnapped Abdullahi alongside members of his family.

He stated that the chairman's security team fought to repel the attackers but could not prevent the abduction. Initial accounts indicated that two police officers and two local vigilantes were killed during the exchange of gunfire.

The Zamfara State Police Command had not officially commented on the incident as of the time of filing this report, as efforts to reach the police spokesperson were unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, the Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, has confirmed that troops have intensified efforts to rescue the abducted council chairman.

In a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North West), Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, troops responded swiftly after hearing gunfire and engaged the attackers in a fierce battle.

According to the military, the intervention forced the terrorists to abandon five members of the chairman's family, including his wife, mother, two children, and another relative, who were rescued safely.

However, the attackers reportedly escaped into nearby bushes with the chairman.

The military added that the attack claimed the lives of two police officers, one local vigilante, and one civilian, while the chairman's elder brother, Alhaji Bello Umar, sustained injuries.

Following the incident, security agencies, including troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and local vigilantes, launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation.

Security forces are currently conducting operations in suspected terrorist hideouts as efforts continue to secure the safe release of the abducted chairman.

The Theatre Command assured the Zamfara State Government and residents that all available operational resources have been deployed to rescue the council chairman and urged members of the public to remain calm and provide credible information that could assist ongoing security operations.
