GUNMEN OPEN FIRE ON FEMALE MOTORIST ON ONDO–ILE-OLUJI ROAD AS POLICE LAUNCH MANHUNT


The Ondo State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation and manhunt for armed men who allegedly attempted to rob a female motorist along the Ondo–Ile-Oluji Road on Sunday, July 19, 2026.

According to the police, the incident occurred at about 6:30 p.m. at the Otaasan area of the Ondo–Ile-Oluji Road, where three unidentified armed men reportedly attacked a 50-year-old motorist, Mrs. Adebusoye Atinuke, while she was driving.

The suspects allegedly opened fire on the vehicle in an apparent attempt to force the driver to stop and rob her. However, the victim reportedly escaped unhurt after managing to drive away, causing the assailants to flee into a nearby bush without carrying out the robbery.

Police operatives responded to the scene shortly after the incident and began combing the surrounding area in search of the fleeing suspects. The Command said investigations are ongoing, with efforts intensified to identify, track, and arrest those responsible.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Felix Ohagwu, psc, mnips, mspsp, reassured residents of the Command's commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

He urged members of the public to remain calm but vigilant and encouraged residents to report suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command's emergency channels.

The Command also advised motorists, particularly those travelling during late hours, to remain security conscious and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could help prevent crime and enhance the safety of road users.
