IRU EKUN SECURITY NETWORK REGISTERS OVER 80,000 VOLUNTEERS, SAYS SUNDAY IGBOHO


Yoruba Nation activist and founder of the Iru Ekun Security Network, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has disclosed that more than 80,000 volunteers have registered to join the regional security outfit across the South-West.

Igboho made the disclosure in a statement released by his media office on Monday, saying the response surpassed the initial target of 50,000 personnel. According to him, the high level of participation reflects the commitment of residents to community-driven efforts aimed at addressing insecurity, including kidnapping and terrorism.

He stated that the Iru Ekun Security Network has already been officially launched in Oyo and Osun states, while plans have been concluded to inaugurate the outfit in Kwara State. Igboho added that key stakeholders, including Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, are supporting the initiative.

The activist also claimed that kidnapping incidents have declined significantly in parts of the South-West since the establishment of the security network, attributing the development to improved local intelligence gathering and collaboration with security agencies.

According to the statement, comprehensive background checks are being carried out on all volunteers to prevent individuals with criminal records or questionable backgrounds from joining the outfit.

Igboho said the security network has continued to work alongside federal security institutions, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Armed Forces, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), and the Ministry of Defence.

He commended the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, Director-General of the DSS Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and Commissioners of Police in the South-West, Kwara and Niger states for their support.

Igboho also praised the governors of the South-West for backing the initiative and urged Nigerians, regardless of ethnic or religious background, to view security as a shared responsibility while supporting lawful efforts to combat crime.
