OSOPADEC DISTANCES ITSELF FROM ONDO ASSEMBLY CRISIS, WARNS AGAINST FALSE ASSOCIATIONS


The Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC) has issued a strong statement distancing itself from the ongoing crisis in the Ondo State House of Assembly, warning individuals, groups, bloggers, and media organisations against linking the Commission to matters it says fall outside its statutory responsibilities.

In a press statement signed by the Director of Media and Corporate Affairs, Godson Ewata, the Commission expressed concern over what it described as sustained attempts to associate OSOPADEC with the legislative crisis through publications, commentaries, videos, and other media content.

According to the Commission, it has no role in the internal affairs of the Ondo State House of Assembly, stressing that any communication between OSOPADEC and the Legislature is conducted strictly in line with constitutional provisions, administrative procedures, and statutory obligations. It added that decisions made by the House remain the exclusive responsibility of the Legislature.

OSOPADEC warned that any continued effort to connect the Commission or its leadership to the Assembly dispute would be regarded as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public, tarnish the institution's reputation, and undermine public confidence.

The Commission also stated that since the inauguration of the current administration under Chairman Prince Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye, it has faced repeated misinformation and what it described as calculated attempts to distract it from its developmental mandate. Despite these challenges, OSOPADEC said it remains committed to delivering sustainable development projects across the oil-producing communities of Ondo State.

The statement further noted that the Commission would no longer tolerate campaigns of falsehood, blackmail, character assassination, or misinformation directed at its leadership or institution. It cautioned against using the Commission's name to advance political interests or influence its operations.

OSOPADEC also reminded media organisations, bloggers, online publishers, and content creators of their professional responsibility to verify facts before publication. It maintained that allegations against the Commission or its officials should be supported by credible and verifiable evidence, warning that defamatory or fabricated publications could attract legal consequences.

The Commission stated that it would pursue all lawful remedies to protect its institutional integrity and hold accountable anyone responsible for malicious or defamatory publications against OSOPADEC.

It advised parties involved in the House of Assembly dispute to seek resolution through constitutional and legal channels without involving the Commission in issues unrelated to its mandate.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, accountability, the rule of law, and the delivery of development projects, OSOPADEC said it would remain focused on serving the oil-producing areas of Ondo State and would not be distracted by what it described as politically motivated propaganda.
