NIGERIAN TROOPS REPEL ISWAP ATTACK, RECOVER CAMCORDER LINKED TO SUSPECTED FOREIGN TERRORIST FACILITATORS


Nigerian troops have successfully repelled an attack by suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on a community in Borno State, while recovering a camcorder said to contain materials that could assist ongoing counterterrorism investigations.

According to security sources, the operation forced the insurgents to retreat after an intense exchange of fire, preventing the attackers from overrunning the targeted community.

During a follow-up operation, troops reportedly recovered a camcorder believed to contain footage and information that may expose the activities of suspected terrorist facilitators, including seven foreign nationals allegedly linked to the insurgent network.

Security authorities are analysing the recovered materials as part of ongoing investigations aimed at identifying those involved in supporting terrorist operations within the region.

The development comes amid sustained military offensives against terrorist groups operating in the North-East, with security forces continuing efforts to dismantle insurgent camps, disrupt logistics networks and restore peace to affected communities.

As of the time of filing this report, the identities and nationalities of the seven suspected foreign facilitators had not been officially disclosed by the relevant authorities, and investigations remain ongoing.

The Nigerian military has reiterated its commitment to sustaining operations against terrorism and called on residents to continue providing credible intelligence that could support security efforts.
