OVERWHELMING SHOW OF SUPPORT AS IDANRE STANDS STILL FOR AKINGBASO, LAWMAKER HAILS LOYALISTS AHEAD OF 2027 CAMPAIGN
The ancient town of Idanre witnessed a massive outpouring of support on Saturday, July 4, 2026, as thousands of residents, political stakeholders, party faithful and supporters turned out to welcome the member representing Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Festus Olarewaju Akingbaso, during his thank-you tour following his emergence and confirmation as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives election.
The gathering, which drew supporters from all districts of Idanre Local Government Area, transformed into a celebration of appreciation as party leaders, youths, women, community leaders and grassroots mobilisers reaffirmed their support for the lawmaker ahead of the next general election.
Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Akingbaso said the tour was dedicated to appreciating every individual who contributed to his emergence as the APC candidate. According to him, the victory was not his alone but the collective achievement of loyal party members, leaders and supporters who worked tirelessly throughout the process.
The federal lawmaker expressed gratitude to APC leaders across the state and local government, traditional and community leaders, party executives, political associates and supporters from every ward and district in Idanre. He specially acknowledged the roles played by APC State Executive members, including Hon. Vincent Akinjide, Hon. Aribigbola, former state executives and other dignitaries who coordinated and supported the process.
"I came to appreciate you for the love and support you have shown me. We are just getting started. In two months' time, campaign will commence," Akingbaso told the cheering supporters.
He also thanked the numerous volunteers, coordinators, campaign teams and grassroots mobilisers whose dedication, he said, made the victory possible, assuring them that their confidence in his leadership would not be taken for granted.
Akingbaso commended the conduct of supporters throughout the victory rally, describing the gathering as peaceful, orderly and well-organised. He noted that despite the large turnout, there was no violence, no reported disturbance and no participant carrying illegal weapons or dangerous objects.
According to him, the peaceful atmosphere demonstrated the maturity and discipline of the people of Idanre and reinforced the community's reputation as one that values peace and democratic participation.
The lawmaker also appreciated the Commissioner of Police and other security agencies for ensuring adequate security throughout the event. He thanked all security personnel for their professionalism and commended the youths of Idanre, both male and female, for their cooperation and responsible conduct.
Reaffirming his commitment to the constituency, Akingbaso assured supporters that he would remain focused on delivering quality representation and developmental projects.
"I will not change. I shall continue with good deeds for the people of my constituency," he pledged.
Looking ahead, the lawmaker announced that the appreciation tour would continue on Tuesday in Ifedore Local Government Area, where supporters in Igbara-Oke would receive him. He disclosed that the visit would also feature the official flag-off of a Federal Fire Service Station approved by the Federal Government and facilitated through his office.
He urged party members and supporters to sustain the spirit of unity and mobilisation as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum, while calling for continued support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's re-election bid.
The large turnout at the Idanre thank-you tour underscored the strong grassroots backing enjoyed by Akingbaso, with supporters expressing optimism that the momentum generated by the event would strengthen the APC's campaign in Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general election.
