ROAD PROJECTS, FLOODING DOMINATE DISCUSSIONS AS EBO FM VISITS ILE-OLUJI/OKEIGBO LG CHAIRMAN


The management team of EBO FM, Ile-Oluji, led by its Manager, Mr. Olusola Ayodele, has paid a courtesy and interactive visit to the Executive Chairman of Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government, Hon. Adebare Adeboye, with discussions focusing on abandoned road projects, flooding and other issues affecting residents of the council area.

During the visit on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, the radio station's management sought clarification on concerns raised by members of the public over the prolonged delay in the completion of some government road projects, particularly the ongoing dualisation project, as well as the recent flooding experienced in parts of the local government.

Speaking during the engagement, Mr. Ayodele said residents had expressed concerns over the abandoned road projects, noting that the situation has caused hardship, damaged property and reportedly led to the loss of lives. He asked the Chairman to provide an update on the efforts being made to facilitate the completion of the project.

Responding, Hon. Adebare Adeboye acknowledged the concerns and explained that the dualisation project is a Federal Government project, placing it outside the constitutional responsibilities of the Local Government.

He, however, stressed that his administration remains committed to the welfare of residents and would continue to engage relevant authorities in the interest of the people.

According to the Chairman, several attempts have been made to establish contact with the contractor handling the project without success. He assured residents that fresh efforts would be made to engage the contractor, determine the cause of the delay and advocate for the speedy continuation of the project.

On the recent flooding in some communities, Adeboye commended the management of EBO FM for seeking verified information before informing the public, describing the media as a vital partner in promoting transparency and responsible governance.

He urged residents to monitor government projects within their communities, regardless of the tier of government executing them, adding that citizens have a responsibility to demand accountability from public office holders.

The Chairman also recalled his inspection of the Esimu River beside the Cathedral of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Ogbontuntun Street, Ile-Oluji, where he discovered that the water channel had been blocked with plantain tubers, rubble and other waste materials.

Describing the act as unfortunate, he noted that the same drainage had previously been dredged by his administration to improve water flow and reduce flooding.

He appealed to residents to desist from actions capable of obstructing drainage channels and assured them that the blocked waterway would be cleared again to minimise the risk of future flooding.

Adeboye reaffirmed his administration's commitment to protecting lives and property through proactive environmental management and flood control measures.

The Chairman also appreciated Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for his prompt intervention following the flooding incidents and commended the Chairman of the Landlords' Association of Oba Adedugbe Way, Oke-Alafia, for providing real-time video footage that assisted government in assessing the situation.

He further disclosed that the Swamp Buggy excavating machine designated for flood control operations is currently undergoing maintenance and would be deployed immediately after repairs to continue dredging and other flood mitigation activities across affected communities.

In his remarks, Mr. Ayodele thanked the Executive Chairman for receiving the EBO FM delegation and described him as a leader whose actions reflect his promises. He also called for sustained collaboration between the media and the Local Government to ensure residents remain adequately informed about government policies and interventions.

As part of the visit, the management of EBO FM presented a customised radio set to Hon. Adebare Adeboye in appreciation of his support for constructive engagement with the media.

The visit ended with both parties reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the partnership between the media and government in promoting accountability, transparency and sustainable development in Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government.
