NUOLGS URGES STAKEHOLDERS TO COLLABORATE ON ORE–OKITIPUPA ROAD REHABILITATION


The National Union of Okitipupa Local Government Students (NUOLGS) has called on key government officials and intervention agencies to urgently work together to rehabilitate the deteriorating Ore–Okitipupa Road, describing the highway as a critical route that requires immediate attention.

In a press release dated July 20, 2026, the union appealed to Ondo State Governor, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa; Hon. Jimi Odimayo, representing Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency; Hon. Donald Ojogo, representing Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency; Hon. Otito Atikase, Ondo State representative on the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC); Hon. Biyi Poroye, Chairman of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC); the Managing Director of the NDDC; the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA); and the Federal Ministry of Works to jointly facilitate the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the road.

According to the statement, the union recently conducted an inspection of failed portions of the highway as part of its commitment to community service and public safety. During the visit, members carried out temporary palliative measures, including clearing blocked drainage channels and making minor interventions aimed at reducing erosion and easing vehicular movement.

NUOLGS noted that while the intervention offered temporary relief in some locations, it was not a permanent solution to the extensive damage affecting the federal highway. The union stated that the scale of deterioration exceeds what students and local communities can address without government intervention.

The union described the Ore–Okitipupa Road as a major transportation corridor linking Ondo South with other parts of Nigeria, expressing concern that its worsening condition poses risks to commuters, affects economic activities, and creates challenges for students who rely on the route for daily travel.

According to the statement, the inspection and advocacy visit was led by the National President of NUOLGS, Prince Adeoye Omoleminu, alongside members of the National Executive Council, the National President of Community Presidents in Okitipupa Local Government, and the President of the National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOSS), OAUSTECH Chapter.


During the visit, the delegation interacted with commercial drivers, private motorists, traders, students, and residents, who reportedly shared concerns about accidents, vehicle damage, travel delays, increased transportation costs, and the general condition of the road.

While acknowledging previous infrastructure efforts by government and relevant agencies, NUOLGS maintained that the present state of the Ore–Okitipupa Road requires prompt attention to reduce safety risks and improve transportation within the region.

The union appealed to Governor Aiyedatiwa, members of the National Assembly representing Ondo South, the leadership of the NDDC, OSOPADEC, FERMA, the Federal Ministry of Works, and other stakeholders to collaborate in securing immediate repairs and the full reconstruction of the road.

NUOLGS emphasized that the appeal is non-political and focused on promoting public safety, economic development, and improved access to education through better road infrastructure. The union added that it remains committed to peaceful advocacy and constructive engagement with relevant authorities until lasting improvements are achieved.

The statement concluded by urging all responsible agencies to treat the matter with urgency in the interest of commuters and residents who depend on the highway.
