TINUBU COMMITTED NO OFFENCE BY MISSING UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY, SAYS AMBASSADOR JIMOH IBRAHIM


Nigeria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, has dismissed concerns over President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's absence from the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), stating that the President committed no offence by not attending the global gathering.

According to Ibrahim, Nigeria was duly represented at the event by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who participated in the proceedings on behalf of the country.

The ambassador maintained that there is no requirement mandating every head of state to personally attend the UN General Assembly, noting that it is common diplomatic practice for countries to be represented by their vice presidents, foreign ministers or other senior government officials when necessary.

His remarks come amid public discussions surrounding President Tinubu's absence from the annual high-level meeting of world leaders at the United Nations headquarters.

The United Nations General Assembly is attended by representatives of member states to deliberate on global issues, with countries free to determine the level of representation at the summit.
