ONDO GOVT ORDERS TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF SELECTED SCHOOLS AHEAD OF STATE ASSEMBLY ELECTION The Ondo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has announced the temporary closure of selected public primary and secondary schools across the state ahead of the Ondo State House of Assembly election scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, 2026. According to a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, the affected schools are those designated as polling centres for the election across the 18 Local Government Areas of the state. The Ministry directed learners, teachers, and other staff members in the affected schools to remain at home on election day as part of measures to ensure the safety of lives and property and to support a peaceful and orderly electoral process. REPORTED CAR HIJACK ATTEMPT FOILED ON ONDO–ILE-OLUJI EXPRESSWAY A reported case of an attempted car hijacking occurred on Sunday along the popular Ondo–Ile-Oluji Expressway at Ota 'San in Ile-Oluji, Ondo State. According to information available to Opima RealNews, suspected armed men allegedly attempted to hijack a vehicle from its owner while the victim was driving along the road. However, the attempt was reportedly foiled following the intervention of security operatives. Sources said the victim sustained injuries during the incident and has been taken to an undisclosed hospital for medical treatment. The report further indicates that the vehicle was driven into a nearby bush during the attack.
