THE CRUCIAL ROLE OF YOUTHS IN BUILDING A BETTER FUTURE


Ile-Oluji is a community blessed with a rich cultural heritage, fertile land, industrious people, and a longstanding tradition of peace and unity. However, like many communities across Nigeria, it continues to face challenges such as unemployment, inadequate infrastructure, and the growing menace of social vices, particularly cultism and thuggery.

The responsibility for changing this narrative does not rest solely with the government. As the future leaders and the most active segment of society, the youths of Ile-Oluji have a critical role to play in shaping the community's future. Sustainable development begins with the collective efforts of the people.

The first step towards meaningful development is choosing peace over violence. Cultism and thuggery may create a false sense of belonging or influence, but their long-term effects are devastating. They destroy lives, create fear, divide families, discourage investment, and damage the reputation of the community. A peaceful environment is essential for economic growth and social progress. Every young person must reject violence, promote peaceful coexistence, and support lawful efforts to rid the community of criminal activities.

Equally important is the need to harness the talents, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit of Ile-Oluji youths. The community is home to skilled farmers, artisans, traders, teachers, technology professionals, and entrepreneurs. By forming cooperative groups, participating in skills acquisition programmes, embracing innovation, and promoting locally made products such as cocoa, garri, and other agricultural produce, young people can create opportunities for themselves and others. Partnerships with the traditional institution, the local government, educational institutions, and development organisations can further expand access to vocational training, agriculture, technology, and business development programmes.

Community development also requires active civic participation. Youths should take ownership of their environment by supporting sanitation initiatives, mentoring younger generations, participating in town hall meetings, and contributing positively to community projects. Initiatives such as free JAMB tutorial classes, sports competitions, environmental sanitation campaigns, leadership programmes, and entrepreneurship hubs can positively engage young people while strengthening community bonds. Constructive engagement with leaders through dialogue, advocacy, and accountability is far more productive than violence or confrontation.

The future of Ile-Oluji will be determined by the decisions made today. If the youths embrace unity, discipline, hard work, and innovation, the town can emerge as one of the leading communities in Ondo State, attracting investment, creating employment opportunities, and improving the quality of life for all residents.

The message to every young person is clear: reject violence, abandon cultism, and embrace education, skills, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Let us replace conflict with cooperation, fear with hope, and division with unity. Together, we can build an Ile-Oluji that future generations will be proud to call home.

REPORTED CAR HIJACK ATTEMPT FOILED ON ONDO–ILE-OLUJI EXPRESSWAY A reported case of an attempted car hijacking occurred on Sunday along the popular Ondo–Ile-Oluji Expressway at Ota 'San in Ile-Oluji, Ondo State. According to information available to Opima RealNews, suspected armed men allegedly attempted to hijack a vehicle from its owner while the victim was driving along the road. However, the attempt was reportedly foiled following the intervention of security operatives.
